Im studying and need help with a Psychology question to help me learn.
.
1- Pick a movie that focuses on a specific drug: illegal (e.g. cocaine) or legal (e.g. cigarettes). Pick a movie from the list below, if you pick a movie outside this list, you will receive 0% on the term paper, unless I approve another movie option for you (requests must be made by email by January 15).
2- Answer the following questions about the movie while focusing on the main character(s):
What year/era is the movie depicting?
What are the protective and risk factors for drug use?
What are the social factors influencing drug use in the movie?
Does the drug use in the movie match its era (e.g. In the 1970s, smoking was acceptable- it was possible for people to smoke in a restaurant; and crack use was widespread among minorities in the US in the 1980s)?
Did the main character influence your perception about the drug that was depicted in the movie?
3- Select one prevention model/framework/theory and use it (along with the materials from the lectures and the textbook) to describe how the model could have prevented drug use? Use a minimum of 3 different peer reviewed articles to support your explanation of the prevention model and its relation to the drug. You can use websites from Health Canada, Statistics Canada and CAMH and relevant books including your course textbook to complement (not replace) the peer-reviewed sources for your paper. However, you are still required to use the minimum number of peer-reviewed articles to support the explanation of your prevention model.
4- Use a minimum of 3 different peer-reviewed articles (different from ones you used for the prevention model) about the drug that you are focusing on and use them to suggest at least two treatments for the main character(s) in the movies. You can use websites from Health Canada, Statistics Canada and CAMH and relevant books including your course textbook to complement (not replace) peer-reviewed sources for your paper. However, you are still required to use the minimum number of peer-reviewed articles to support the explanation of your suggested treatments.
5- The paper should be between 7-10 double-spaced pages, excluding the title page and references. No abstract or introduction are required but a one page summary (of the movie) is necessary (as part of the 7-10 pages). Use the latest edition of APA for your paper.
6- Use the following headings for your movie paper: Summary, Question 2, Prevention model and Treatments.
7- Use of quotations will negatively impact your grade and to a large extent (you will not receive marks for using quotes from peer-reviewed studies at all; everything must be in your own words).
8- Any peer-reviewed article you dont cite in text does not count when it comes to grading, even if its in the reference list
9- You can submit an optional first draft of your paper (by email and CC my TA, in word format only) by February 20 if you want to receive substantial feedback for your final paper. Only complete first drafts will be reviewed. Received first drafts will be returned back to you with feedback by March 5.
